Poster requirements

If selected for a poster presentation, please note:

  • Posters will be grouped by topic and displayed throughout the congress in the dedicated poster room.
  • The presenting author must be present at the poster during the entire duration of the assigned session.
  • Poster size should not exceed H = 150 cm, W = 90 cm, portrait orientation.
  • Online registration must be completed within 2 weeks of the acceptance of your abstract. If registration is not completed within this timeframe, a reminder will be sent. If you fail to register within 1 day of receiving the reminder, your abstract will be officially rejected and removed from the program.
1. Abstract Submission Guidelines for Oral and Poster Presentations

Abstracts can be submitted for consideration in:

  • Oral presentation (10-15’)
  • Flash Talk (3’) + Poster presentation
  • Poster presentation

Authors will be requested to indicate one of the following topic categories for their abstract:

  • Sensorimotor function and fatiguability in SMA
  • Cognitive function in SMA
  • Metabolism & diet in SMA
  • Regeneration in SMA
  • Optimizing treatments for SMA
  • New standards of care for SMA
  • Biomarkers in SMA
  • Other topics in SMA
2. Abstract Submission Guidelines for Workshops

As part of the scientific programme, we invite attendees to propose and host interactive workshops.

Workshop Format:

  • Flexible and defined by the organiser.
  • Must include at least one co-speaker (more are welcome).
  • Recommended duration: approximately 1.5 hours (flexible).

Workshop topics are open and may include – but are not limited to – the following areas:

    • Health Economics & Access to Therapies
    • Optimising SMA Care
    • Transdisciplinary Approaches in SMA Research
    • From Bench to Business: Launching a Biotech Startup
    • Innovations in Robotics, Nanotechnology & Beyond
    • Public Health Perspectives in SMA
    • Understanding and Managing Clinical Symptoms in SMA
    • The Impact of Geopolitical Factors on Treatment Access
    • Emerging Trends in Clinical Practice

Workshops are encouraged to engage a mixed audience, including researchers, healthcare professionals, and patient advocates.

Abstracts should include:

    • The proposed topic, objectives of the workshop, intended audience
    • Names and roles of at least one co-speaker
    • Any logistical or technical requirements

General information for all abstracts

  • Abstracts must be submitted via the official congress website.
  • Abstracts must be written in English
  • Title: maximum 200 characters
  • Body text (including spaces but excluding title, authors’ information, logistical requirements, if applicable): maximum 3000 characters.

Please include the co-author names in the uploaded abstract file, but copy only the body text in the box on the portal.

Listed co-authors for each abstract: maximum 20. Additional co-authors should be referred to as a Study Group and can be displayed on the poster or acknowledged during an oral presentation.

  • Submitted abstracts will be reviewed by an international panel of experts. For the poster and oral presentations, authors’ requests on the format will be considered but the final decision rests with the evaluation committee.
  • All accepted abstracts will be published in the congress book. It is the author’s responsibility to obtain approval from all co-authors before submitting the abstract. If accepted, any spelling, grammatical or scientific errors will be reproduced as typed by the author.
  • An acknowledgement of receipt of the submission will be sent to the e-mail address of the workshop host specified in the registration form. The host will receive all correspondence concerning the abstract and is responsible for informing co-speakers of the status of the abstract.
  • The submitter will be notified of the acceptance or rejection of the abstract in late October 2025. In case an abstract is not accepted and the author has already registered, they will have the option to receive a full refund of the registration fee.
  • Abstracts may be submitted prior to registering for the event; however, registration must be completed within two weeks of receiving the abstract acceptance notification (expected by the end of October 2025). Failure to register within this period will result in the rejection of the submission and removal of the abstract from the programme. Please note that the early bird registration discount is available until 6th October 2025.
  • If a selected presenting author cannot attend, they should assign a substitute and inform the SMA Europe’s Research and Medical Manager ([email protected]) of this replacement in due time.
  • References and credits should not be included in the abstract, nor subheadings or keywords. Subheadings will automatically be removed.
